    Neuron-Specific Enolase (NSE) is an enzyme that occupies a pivotal niche within the realm of bovine neurobiology. It represents an isoform of the glycolytic enzyme enolase, but what distinguishes NSE is its unique distribution, predominantly localized within neuronal cells, including both the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS) of cattle. The prominence of NSE in these neural tissues reflects its central role in the glycolytic pathway specific to nerve cells, notably its catalytic function in the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. This enzymatic activity is fundamental to glucose metabolism within neurons and, by extension, to the sustenance of neuronal functions.
