Human Epidermal Growth Factor (hEGF) is a protein with profound implications in cell biology and tissue repair. While its name suggests a human origin, EGF-like molecules and signaling pathways have also been identified in dogs (canines), albeit with structural variations.
EGF is a member of the epidermal growth factor family, which encompasses various proteins involved in regulating cell growth, proliferation, and tissue regeneration. The primary receptor for EGF is the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), which is present on the surface of numerous cell types. When EGF binds to EGFR, it triggers a series of intracellular events that ultimately stimulate cell division, tissue repair, and the maintenance of healthy epithelial tissues.
