    At its core, proBNP is a prohormone synthesized predominantly within the cardiomyocytes, or heart muscle cells, of dogs. It belongs to the natriuretic peptide family, which includes B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). When the heart encounters increased stress or stretching, a common occurrence in various cardiac conditions, proBNP undergoes enzymatic cleavage to release both BNP and NT-proBNP.

    BNP, the active hormone, exerts its effects by acting as a vasodilator. It plays a vital role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body.
