    Target/Biomarker information

Soluble Fms-Like Tyrosine Kinase-1 (sFlt-1) in dogs (canines) is a pivotal biomarker with multifaceted roles in vascular health and angiogenesis regulation. It is a soluble receptor that functions by binding to and neutralizing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placental growth factor (PlGF), thereby modulating their biological effects. In healthy adult dogs, sFlt-1 levels are typically tightly regulated, contributing to the maintenance of normal vascular function. Structurally, sFlt-1 is a truncated form of the transmembrane receptor, Fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (Flt-1). Unlike the membrane-bound form, sFlt-1 lacks the transmembrane domain, making it soluble and capable of circulating in the bloodstream. This solubility allows sFlt-1 to act as a decoy receptor, sequestering VEGF and PlGF and preventing them from binding to their cellular receptors.
