Target/Biomarker information
Human Epidermal Growth Factor (hEGF) is a protein with profound implications in cell biology and tissue regeneration. Although its origin is human, EGF-related molecules and signaling pathways have also been identified in cats (felines), albeit with structural differences. EGF is a member of the epidermal growth factor family, a group of proteins known for their pivotal roles in regulating cell growth, proliferation, and tissue repair. The principal receptor for EGF is the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), which is present on the surface of various cell types. Upon binding to EGFR, EGF initiates a cascade of intracellular events that stimulate cell division, tissue repair, and the maintenance of healthy epithelial tissues. In cats, EGF-like molecules and their associated signaling pathways exhibit functional similarities to their human counterparts. While the specific structure of EGF in cats may not be identical to that in humans, the fundamental principles of EGF-mediated cellular responses are conserved. This implies that EGF pathways play essential roles in feline physiology, contributing to tissue homeostasis, repair, and regeneration.
