    Feline Soluble Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid Cells-2 (sTREM2) represents a captivating component of the feline immune and central nervous systems. In its soluble form, sTREM2 stands as a distinct entity compared to its membrane-bound counterpart, TREM2. sTREM2 is generated through proteolytic cleavage of the membrane-bound receptor and can be found in the cerebrospinal fluid and bloodstream of cats.

    Structurally, sTREM2 shares a structural resemblance with its membrane-bound counterpart but lacks the transmembrane domain. It retains the extracellular domain responsible for interactions with various ligands and immune cells. This unique structure equips sTREM2 with the ability to exert its functions within the feline body.

    Functionally, sTREM2 plays a pivotal role in modulating immune responses within the central nervous system of cats. Its presence is particularly pronounced in microglia, specialized immune cells resident in the brain. sTREM2 acts as a signaling molecule, influencing the behavior of microglia and other immune cells, especially in the context of neuroinflammation.
