N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in cattle is a specialized and indispensable biomarker intricately linked to cardiac health. It is derived from the B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) precursor molecule and plays a critical role in assessing bovine cardiac health.
The synthesis and release of NT-proBNP in cattle are intimately connected to cardiac function. Specifically, the ventricles of the heart, notably the left ventricle, are the primary source of NT-proBNP secretion. When these cardiac muscles experience stress, strain, or injury, such as in cases of valvular heart disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, or congestive heart failure (CHF), NT-proBNP is released into the bloodstream.
