PSA, also known as kallikrein-3, is a member of the kallikrein-related peptidase family and is characterized by its specific expression in the prostate tissue of male cattle.
Structurally, PSA is classified as a serine protease, a type of enzyme known for its involvement in catalyzing biochemical reactions. Its expression is tightly regulated by androgens, the male sex hormones responsible for the development and maintenance of male reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics.
PSA is predominantly localized within the prostate tissue of male cattle, where it plays a crucial role in reproductive physiology. Its principal function is to facilitate the liquefaction of seminal fluid after ejaculation.
