    Target/Biomarker Information

Canine AD-associated Neuronal Thread Protein (AD7c-NTP) represents a pivotal protagonist in the intricate narrative of canine neurodegeneration. Structurally reminiscent of its human counterpart, AD7c-NTP is a neuronal protein that finds itself intimately woven into the fabric of neurofibrillary tangle formation, a central pathological feature shared with Alzheimer's disease (AD).

The journey of AD7c-NTP begins within the canine brain, where it partakes in the complex choreography of neurofibrillary tangle assembly. These tangles, characterized by their twisted filaments primarily composed of AD7c-NTP, are emblematic of cognitive dysfunction and memory impairment in dogs. This phenomenon parallels the neurofibrillary tangles seen in humans with AD, underscoring the evolutionary conservation of neurodegenerative processes.

At a molecular level, the aggregation of AD7c-NTP and its entanglement with other associated proteins give rise to the neurofibrillary tangles that disrupt the normal architecture and function of neurons. This disruption leads to neuronal death and synapse loss, ultimately manifesting as the cognitive deficits observed in dogs afflicted with canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CCDS).
