Target/Biomarker information
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in horses (equines) is a glycoprotein biomarker with important implications in various physiological and pathological processes. Structurally, CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and features multiple immunoglobulin-like domains, enabling its role in cell adhesion processes and tissue development. While CEA is actively produced during fetal development, its presence in healthy adult horses is typically limited to very low levels. During fetal development, CEA is involved in cell adhesion, promoting the formation and integrity of various tissues. Its function is primarily to mediate interactions between cells, contributing to the organization and stability of tissues during embryonic growth.
