    Target/Biomarker information

HSP90α, or Heat Shock Protein 90 alpha, is a biomarker of significant importance within the realm of horses (equines). It belongs to the heat shock protein family, a group of molecular chaperones that play essential roles in maintaining cellular health and protein quality control. HSP90α, specifically, is predominantly localized within the cytoplasm of equine cells, where it carries out crucial functions related to protein folding, stabilization, and cellular response to stress. One of the primary roles of HSP90α is to act as a molecular chaperone, assisting in the proper folding of newly synthesized proteins. This process is essential to ensure that proteins adopt their correct three-dimensional structures, allowing them to function optimally. Moreover, HSP90α plays a role in refolding and repairing damaged or misfolded proteins. This function is particularly critical when cells face stressors that can cause proteins to misfold or aggregate, such as elevated temperatures, infections, toxins, or other environmental challenges. In response to various forms of cellular stress, the expression of HSP90α in equine cells increases significantly. This upregulation is part of the cell's adaptive response mechanism aimed at preserving protein integrity and preventing cellular dysfunction. By assisting in protein folding and repair, HSP90α helps cells cope with stress and maintain their essential functions.
