Structurally akin to its human counterpart, AD7c-NTP is a neuronal protein intricately involved in the development of neurofibrillary tangles—a hallmark of cognitive dysfunction shared with Alzheimer's disease (AD).
The journey of AD7c-NTP begins within the feline brain, where it participates in the complex choreography of neurofibrillary tangle formation. These tangles, characterized by their twisted filaments primarily composed of AD7c-NTP, are emblematic of cognitive dysfunction and memory impairment in cats. This phenomenon mirrors the neurofibrillary tangles seen in humans with AD, underscoring the evolutionary conservation of neurodegenerative processes.
At a molecular level, the aggregation of AD7c-NTP and its association with other proteins give rise to the neurofibrillary tangles that disrupt the normal architecture and function of neurons.
