In the intricate dance of bone metabolism, β-CTx represents a beacon of bone resorption, a process wherein old or damaged bone tissue is methodically broken down. This process is orchestrated by specialized cells known as osteoclasts, which actively release fragments of type I collagen, including β-CTx, into the bloodstream. This biomarker, therefore, provides a quantifiable measure of the rate at which bone tissue is being resorbed in cats.
