This small globular protein plays a pivotal role in feline health, serving as an essential component of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules.

    The MHC class I molecules, in partnership with Feline B2M, form a crucial part of immune surveillance in cats. These molecules are like molecular flags displayed on the surface of nearly every nucleated cell in a cat's body. Their primary function is to present fragments of intracellular pathogens or abnormal cellular proteins to cytotoxic T cells, the immune system's elite enforcers. This presentation is akin to a molecular "Wanted" poster, enabling the immune system to identify and eliminate infected or aberrant cells with precision.

    Feline B2M plays a vital role in ensuring the proper functioning of MHC class I molecules. Without B2M, these molecules would not be efficiently transported to the cell surface or would be susceptible to premature degradation.
