Target/Biomarker information
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in cats (felines) is a glycoprotein biomarker that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell adhesion molecules. This protein serves multifaceted roles in both normal physiology and disease states. During fetal development, CEA is actively produced and plays a vital role in cell adhesion, contributing to tissue formation and integrity. However, in healthy adult cats, CEA is typically present at very low levels. Structurally, CEA is characterized by multiple immunoglobulin-like domains that enable it to mediate cell adhesion processes. These domains are critical for promoting interactions between cells, ensuring proper tissue organization during embryonic growth.
