Target/Biomarker information
H. pylori is a Gram-negative bacterium, with which half of the world’s population is infected. This species is a Class I carcinogen that colonizes the human stomach, wherein it can induce inflammatory disorders (chronic gastritis and ulceration) and malignant neoplastic diseases (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue and gastric cancer). The outer membrane of H. pylori plays a pivotal role in the attachment and colonization of gastric cells. After colonization, H. pylori pathogenesis results in inflammation. H. pylori-infected patients exhibit inflammation of the gastric mucosa, which can result in metaplasia. OMPs might be used as a immuno-diagnosis of H. pylori.
