N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N-phenylurea, also known as forchlorfenuron (FCF), is a synthetic plant cytokine-like growth regulator that is massively utilized in agriculture to increase the fruit size and weight in kiwifruit and watermelon. The mechanism of fruit enlargement using FCF seems to be in promoting cell division and lateral growth and appears to increase the levels of endogenous cytokinins, auxins, and gibberellins. But, the excessive usage of FCF on plants are toxic to the consumers.
