Target/Biomarker information
Calprotectin, also known as S100-A8, is a protein that belongs to the S100 family of proteins. It is primarily produced by neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, during inflammation and infection. Calprotectin levels in the stool are used as a non-specific marker of inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract and can be helpful in diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
