The WNT gene family consists of structurally related genes which encode secreted signaling proteins. These proteins have been implicated in oncogenesis and in several developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis. The Wnt family member 8B (Wnt8B) is one of the canonical Wnt ligands implicated in oncogenesis, several developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis, and other pathophysiological processes. Wnt8B expression was detected in embryoid body derived from ES cells, hepatocyte progenitors derived from ES cells, and fetal brain. It also expressed in several tumors such as gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and embryonal tumors.
