Interferon alpha-2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IFNA2 gene. The broad spectrum of ISGs explains the wide range of biological activity of type I IFNs. In addition to their antiviral activity, type I IFNs also inhibit the proliferation of cells and regulate the activation of the immune system.
