It is a soluble receptor that plays a critical role in regulating the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and maintaining vascular homeostasis. Structurally, sFlt-1 is a truncated form of the transmembrane receptor, Fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (Flt-1), which is involved in binding vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placental growth factor (PlGF). In healthy adult cattle, sFlt-1 levels are typically tightly regulated, contributing to the maintenance of normal vascular function.
