Target/Biomarker information

This pathogenic E. coli include enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) and enteropathogenic, enteroinvasive, and uropathogenic E. coli. Furthermore, E. coli is often the causative agent of opportunistic infections in compromised hosts. Thus, septicemic colibacillosis is a persistent problem in neonatal calves. A large conjugative R plasmid encodes the CS31A protein, together with aerobactin system and multiple antibiotic resistance. CS31A is differ from the majority of fimbriae expressed by ETEC and act as colonization factors by promoting adherence to epithelial cells. The aerobactin-mediated iron uptake system has been correlated with an enhanced ability to cause septicemic infection in isolates of E. coli from humans and domestic animals.
