Target/Biomarker information
The pathogenesis of H. pylori begins with colonization of the gastric epithelium. The flagellum allows H. pylori cells to move through the mucus layer in the stomach and reach the epithelial cells, thus playing a key role in initial colonization. H. pylori flagellin (hFlg), the major component of the flagellar filament, was reported to induce a humoral immune response in H. pylori-infected patients. Thus, hFlg is considered a valid target for vaccine or therapeutic development.
