Gastrin-17 (G-17) is a protein that is specifically secreted from antral G cells, and it has been suggested that its serum level may reflect the severity of antral atrophy more accurately than serum total gastrin. However, other studies have demonstrated that the gastric serum profile is not reliable for use in the diagnosis of atrophy.
