    Bovine p-tau212 and p-tau214 represent a specific subset of tau proteins intricately linked to the neurological profile of cattle. These phosphorylated tau variants are predominantly localized within the central nervous system (CNS) of bovines, where they play a crucial role in maintaining the structural stability of neuronal microtubules.

    Under normal circumstances, tau proteins, including p-tau212 and p-tau214, are tasked with binding to microtubules and aiding in their assembly. This function ensures the proper functioning of neurons, including axonal transport and synaptic communication. The equilibrium in tau phosphorylation is delicate, and any disruption can have profound consequences.

    In neurodegenerative disorders, including tauopathies observed in cattle, tau proteins undergo abnormal phosphorylation. This post-translational modification results in tau proteins assuming atypical conformations, rendering them susceptible to aggregation. The aggregation of tau proteins culminates in the formation of neurofibrillary tangles within neurons. These tangles disrupt axonal transport, compromise synaptic function, and eventually lead to neuronal dysfunction and degeneration. The presence of elevated levels of p-tau212 and p-tau214 is indicative of these pathological processes and the potential emergence of cognitive and neurological deficits in affected cattle.
